Example Term Paper

I put together an example to help you with your Term Papers.

Keep in mind, this is just to help you get a grasp of the overall feel of the project, your paper will look a little different depending on the content.

Notice that there is a catchy title, and the last sentence of the first paragraph is the thesis statement.

There’s also more information on the Term Papers page.

Map Quiz and Presentation grades

The grades have been posted for the Presentations and the Map Quiz. They are accessible on Blackboard under “Grades,” the button on the left-hand side.

Please check all of your grades on Blackboard and let me know if there are any discrepancies.

If you have any late work you still need to give me (for reduced points of course), like Journal Entries, the last day for these to be turned in is right before class, 5pm, May 22nd.

Don’t forget a Bluebook for next week!

Readings for Week 8

The readings for next week are posted on the class archive website: sgahm.org/s12hla

I changed one of the readings so instead of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, we’ll be reading “Mexican Views on the Mexican-American War.” This reading on the Mexican-American War is a little shorter and it’s more interesting.

Don’t forget that Term Paper Presentations are next week, and send me an email of you have any questions.

Some insight to Bolivar’s “Jamaica Letter”

For Bolívar’s “Jamaica Letter” it might help to read the Wikipedia entry titled “Carta de Jamaica.” The textbook gives some background to the letter, but the Wikipedia entry has more specific information.

Also, when Bolívar refers to the Anahuac, he’s speaking of the Aztec Empire.

The “Jamaica Letter” is a little longer than some of the other Primary Source readings we’ve done, but it summarizes many of the concerns relating to Latin America as a whole.

Send me an email of you have any questions.
